Hi, I'm Jen!

Chief ferment nerd & founder of What The Ferment. Welcome to the funky little world of fermenting! 🥕

I’m a Canadian cat mum, travel writer, and former nurse based in Sydney, Australia. Five years ago I fell in love with fermenting, as it merges my passions of health, travel, and food all in one.

For me, several things make fermentation magical. For one, it’s a low-waste means of creating long-lasting foods. Then there are the health benefits; fermented foods are often rich in probiotics, nutrients and are more digestible. Lest we forget, fermentation yields unique flavours only attainable through the work of microorganisms. Put simply, nature is awesome 🤓

All of the products on this site are handmade in small batches by me. I use local, seasonal produce and am plastic-free from production through packaging. Want to learn the art of fermenting yourself? I also run virtual workshops teaching you how to ferment at home. 🏡
